A Week in My Trainers

Like everybody else, I am one busy bee at the moment.  Since it’s now the run up to Christmas I am feeling increasingly busy at work, not to mention tired by the weather and tempted by the treats of Christmas and silly season.  Since I’m not properly in training for VMLM 2016 yet and I am short on time, this definitely means that my workouts are based on enjoyment and time efficiency.  This means HIIT, run-commuting and fitness classes with friends.

Monday – HIIT (Avg HR: 143, Max HR: 174)

I kicked off the week with interval sprints on the treadmill – on an incline of 7 and speed of 16 kmph I did 15 rounds of 20 seconds on and 40 seconds off.  It was one very sweaty wake up call.

Tuesday – Run-Commute and Mountain Athletics

I decided to run to work tech free as I think it is easy to get into the grip of numbers determining success.  This was a great decision because I felt like I was struggling due to my hip, the unseasonably warm weather and my backback which felt like the weight of a small child on my back.  Had I been measuring my pace with my watch or an app I may have felt disheartened by my time, but instead I felt really proud of myself for spurring myself on and making it through.

Wednesday – Circuits (Avg HR: 132, Max HR: 167)

10 Heavy Squats (40 kg)

10 Deadlifts (30 kg)

20 Split Squats (10 each leg) (30 kg)

20 KB Swings (16kg)

20 KB Single Arm Swings (10 per arm) (12kg)

10 KG Snatch to Press (10 per arm) (12kg)

2x

10 Bent Over Rows (17.5kg)

10 Tricep Press Ups (I definitely have to do these from my knees)

10 Bicep Curls (5kg DB)

10 Press Ups to Mountain Climber Sides

2x

20 TRX Mountain Climbers

15 TRX Pikes to Scissors

30 Second Superman

Thursday – Rest Day

Friday – Pulse by Clubbercise

I tried out the new class at Virgin Active called Pulse.  It’s an exercise class set to dance tracks, in the dark and with glowsticks.  It sounds fun because it was!  I prefer high impact exercise on the whole but as a light form of cardio I really enjoyed it.

Saturday – Saturday Morning Spin with my flatmate Tiffany

Sunday – Sunday Runday (5 Miles, 36:47)
